Integrating technological, market and organisational network opportunities
Innovation is at the fore of many industry, academia and government agendas. The pharmaceutical industry, which has been at the forefront of life-saving and life-prolonging innovations is used as an example. Recently it has struggled to translate scientific advances into medicines of value. New challenges provide drivers for further, and potentially different, areas for innovation; not only from the scientific and technological perspective. A wider exploration of the overall 'healthcare' value chain and a more open approach to innovation indicates that there are many areas of opportunity, but this requires a more holistic and integrated approach to address behavioural, economic, societal and legal challenges as well as the medical, scientific and technological challenges, which can be translated into other industries.
