  • iPRD is a bridge between academia and the organic chemical sector. It aims to deliver value by closely connecting industry needs with academic capability through an Industrial Club that has a joint management team able to influence the direction of public funded research and development.

  • Based within the University of Leeds, it consists of internationally renowned chemists and chemical engineers, a technical director from industry and a wealth of equipment, resource and expertise to help test processes and solve problems.
  • iPRD uses public and private funding to carry out projects with the aim of providing competitive, step-change technology to be used by industry to enable more cost effective, intensive, cleaner processes producing better products more quickly.
  • Examples of projects currently or planned to be undertaken are:
    • Mild catalytic hydrogenation
    • Non-halo alkylations
    • Catalytic synthesis of amides
    • Non-Wittig synthesis of cis and trans alkenes
    • Holistic approach to ultra-high purity crystals
    • Total destruction of organics in aqueous effluents
    • Continuous photochemical reactions
    • Use of scCO2 in selective extraction.
  • iPRD also supports innovative MSc and PhD training in Chemical Process Research and Development and collaboration with other institutions to extend skill base and network effectively.
