The Best Practice Award for Innovation, launched by North of England Excellence, will be open to organisations which have introduced an innovative service, product or idea in the period since 1 January 2009.
The award is open to organisations of any size and type in the North of England, whether public, private or voluntary, and from all sectors. Entrants should be able to show that their innovation has resulted in a significant benefit to their customers, their workforce or to society in general. The award is sponsored by the Manufacturing Institute.
The closing date for applications is 30 June and the award will be presented at the annual North of England Business Excellence Awards ceremony on Thursday 14 October in Leeds. Winners will be invited to share their experience at future seminars organised to help promote best practice in innovation.
North of England Excellence is a non-profit body which promotes business improvement and best practice. Its chief executive, David Teale, said: “Since the economic downturn began, we have been struck by the way in which businesses have been using innovation to overcome the challenges.
“It could be a new and improved way of working, a new product or service, or an imaginative solution to a problem the organisation has faced. The award aims to recognise successful innovators and share some of the lessons learned with a wider audience.”
The Best Practice Award for Innovation is one of three new awards introduced by North of England Excellence this year. The Best Practice Award for Housing is aimed at organisations in the social housing sector while the Best Practice Award for Education is open to schools, colleges and other educational bodies.
