The importance of substance identity in pre-SIEF negotiations

During pre-SIEF deliberations, and where substance identity is less certain, analytical data on components and impurities will allow valid comparisons to be made. Stabe, effective SIEF’s can then be found on scientific evidence. There may also be a need for specialist help on chemical nomenclature to identify all the potential partners to define each SIEF’s substance clearly.

To help, Yorkshire Chemical Focus is teaming up with the Government Chemist and Chemistry Innovation to bring you an event on Tuesday 11th November, to be held at the Briar Court Hotel, Huddersfield, and which will look at analytical methods and mesurement techniques that will help you in arriving at ’sameness’.

This will be a half day event and is free of charge to all companies wishing to attend. For more information contact Bernadette Francis at bernadette.francis@lgc.co.uk or call on 0208 943 7423.

REACH Workshop, Wednesday 17 September, 10:00-13:30, Priory Campus, Barnsley

This workshop organised by Enterprise Europe is free and will aim to help delegates get to grips with the new chemicals legislation. It is suitable for those who are new to REACH - not for those who are ready familiar with the regulation and what they have to do.It will include a brief outline of what REACH means for both producers and users of chemicals. In addition to how to comply and what you need to do next, there will be an opportunity to hear from a local company about what they are doing to prepare for REACH and how they are working with customers to help them.

Local help and support will also be on hand providing companies software solutions to help deal with the registration process.

The so called ‘REACH’, (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances) legislation is all about identifying the hazards and risks of chemicals and ensuring that people can use them safely. Preparing for REACH is crucial for manufacturers and importers of chemicals if they wish to continue manufacturing them without interruption, but it’s also vital that firms who use chemicals, for example to manufacture their own products or to clean machinery or premises, make sure that they talk to their suppliers to check they can continue to obtain and use these products.

Come along to this practical workshop to find out what REACH might mean for YOUR business.
