REACH Workshop, Wednesday 17 September, 10:00-13:30, Priory Campus, Barnsley

This workshop organised by Enterprise Europe is free and will aim to help delegates get to grips with the new chemicals legislation. It is suitable for those who are new to REACH - not for those who are ready familiar with the regulation and what they have to do.It will include a brief outline of what REACH means for both producers and users of chemicals. In addition to how to comply and what you need to do next, there will be an opportunity to hear from a local company about what they are doing to prepare for REACH and how they are working with customers to help them.

Local help and support will also be on hand providing companies software solutions to help deal with the registration process.

The so called ‘REACH’, (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances) legislation is all about identifying the hazards and risks of chemicals and ensuring that people can use them safely. Preparing for REACH is crucial for manufacturers and importers of chemicals if they wish to continue manufacturing them without interruption, but it’s also vital that firms who use chemicals, for example to manufacture their own products or to clean machinery or premises, make sure that they talk to their suppliers to check they can continue to obtain and use these products.

Come along to this practical workshop to find out what REACH might mean for YOUR business.

REACH and Safety Data Sheets

Although REACH came into force on 1 June in 2007 and safety data sheets should now be issued in the revised format required by REACH, until UK CHIP is repealled it remains UK law, so don’t panic if you haven’t revised yours yet. Technically safety data sheets currently being issued in the new REACH format are not legal but we understand that the HSE are taking a tolerant approach to companies who have already moved over to the new format.
